the amount of energy the earth and atmosphere absorbs
About half of the suns energy is absorbed into the earth. 20% of the energy is absorbed by the atmosphere and 30% is reflected back by clouds and the surface of the earth. With the energy absorbed into the atmosphere, it heats the earth, allowing us to live by making it not cold creating a greenhouse effect. The sun gives Earth 13,281x more energy than society uses. When energy comes from the sun to the Earth, not all of it reaches the surface of the Earth. Around 30% of the energy is reflected by clouds, the surface of the Earth, and the gases of the atmosphere. Another twenty percent is absorbed by the atmosphere and clouds. This leaves only about fifty percent of the total energy from the sun that hits and is absorbed by the Earth's surface. That fifty percent of the energy gets turned into heat energy and overnight, will try to leave the Earth.
